In my social media presentations, I mention the importance of building a content strategy for your social media marketing plan. This content generation is how you are going to attract your target audience. However, another aspect to keep in mind is the timing of your posts. When is the “prime time” for social media networks?
According to a study done by Buddy Media, Facebook users are 18% more active on Thursdays and Fridays compared to the rest of the week. One possible reason for this is the approaching weekend. If you were posting about an upcoming event that weekend, these days would be the perfect opportunity to do so. People are more disengaged with their work on these days and are looking ahead to their plans for the weekend – your event might be something they might find interesting!
While these two days are claimed to be the most active, it all depends on when your specific audience is most active. This calls for a bit of research. Look to see when your audience is posting/tweeting/retweeting or commenting on their pages. That way you can see when they are normally online and you can cater to these times. Are your users on during the day or after work hours?
Posting your content when your users are on will allow your content to be at the top of their newsfeed. That way your comments/tips/advice will be read. In my speaking experience on social media, there’s a time and a place for jokes and quirky comments throughout the presentation. The same goes for social media. Think about the timing and placement of your content so that people will see or hear your message.
